Not Sure What Type of HVAC You Need?
What Are the Different Options an Affordable HVAC Contractor Can Offer?
Before an affordable HVAC contractor can mount a system, you first need to determine if you want a roof installation one or a split unit system.
Roof-mounted systems
These systems have the heating and cooling systems packed into 1 cabinet. They are often referred to as gas packs. They generally cost less than a comparable split system. In drier regions, many houses used to have swamp-coolers. When replacing them with an HVAC system, it is cheaper to use the pre-existing mounts and ductwork.
They are also harder to install. And you will need to find the right spot on your roof which is capable of supporting the unit’s weight. After which, a platform needs to be built and a drain pipe has to be run along the roof to prevent any issues with mold or corrosion. A crane may be needed to raise the unit on to the roof, and a team in place to hook it up.
Split system
These systems are more efficient due to the fact the heat exchanger can be placed in either shady or cooler location instead of the roof in direct sunlight. All that is needed is a solid and level concrete platform. Installing a split system could mean making modifications to your home in order to run the needed lines. The heat exchangers are prone to picking up debris and have to be cleaned regularly. While they do come with protective screens, care has to be taken to make sure nothing gets in, especially when there are children living in the home.
Size
Bigger is not always better when it comes to HVAC systems, and vice versa. If you have a system which is too small, then it will be running continuously in order to sustain the temperature you set. However, when you have a system which is too big, it will not run enough to keep up with the constant humidity.
